Colombo City - 1 Hour

At the airport you will be greeted by our Jetwing Representative and your chauffeur guide who will take you to the capital city of Colombo. Once at the comforts of your hotel, relax and recover from jet lag. If you have spare time, your chauffeur guide will introduce you to some of Colombo’s curious sites such as the vibrant markets of Pettah, old city of Fort, the Hindu Temple at Sea Street and the Dutch Church at Wolfendal or alternatively to indulge in some shopping.

Enjoy a city tour of Colombo

Leave Colombo’s coastline and head inland. Drop by the Elephant Care Relief Foundation – a charity that looks after domesticated elephants. Meet an elephant expert and enjoy the unique opportunity to walk with, and bathe elephants. After lunch, our sightseeing tour of Sri Lanka continues to the town of Sigiriya – a key cornerstone in the cultural triangle. In the evening, climb the amazing Sigiriya rock fortress – a World Heritage Site. This 5th Century marvel in the sky is an architectural masterpiece carved from a massive rock.

Learn about the better kept ruins of ancient Ceylon at the UNESCO World Heritage City of Polonnaruwa – the medieval capital of ancient Lanka from the 11th to 13th century A.D. Take a walking tour to the ruins of Lankathilaka, Thuparamaya, Royal Palace, Rankoth Vehera and Gal Viharaya. On your return, take an exhilarating jeep ride with an expert naturalist guide to the Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park – a sanctuary is a home to wild elephants, wild buffaloes, sambar deer, crocodiles, sloth bear and more.

Arrive in the hill capital of Kandy, eminent as the centre of Buddhism and the stronghold of the last Sinhalese kingdom. Explore the town at your leisure. Pay homage to the Temple of the Tooth Relic, which houses Sri Lanka’s most sacred relic – a tooth of the Lord Buddha. Visit the Udawattekele forest reserve or the bustling streets and market places. Take in the views from upper Lake drive. In the evening, attend a performance featuring traditional dances from the different regions of Sri Lanka.

Take the upcountry train into the mountains and enjoy the breathtaking views along the way. From Nanu Oya train station ride to Nuwara Eliya – the land of Ceylon tea. After a rest, drive around the old colonial town of Nuwara Eliya – often referred to as “Little England” with its colonial bungalows, Tudor-style hotels, well-tended hedgerows and pretty gardens shrouded in cool misty air. Take a guided stroll past the renowned golf course, the colonial members only Hill Club and English styled cottages and Victoria Park.

From the hills of Nuwara Eliya descend to the jungles of Yala. The Yala National Park is famous for the Sri Lankan Leopard (a unique sub species). Yala is also considered to have the highest densities of leopards in the world. Sri Lanka’s ‘Big Five’ can be spotted here too – elephants, sloth bears, sambur and crocodiles, as well as leopards. Take an evening jeep ride with our naturalist guide and keep your fingers crossed – you may well spot them all and other wild life too.

A scenic drive to the south coast and Galle – Sri Lanka’s oldest living city dotted with historic sites with a fusion of European and Arabic cultural and architectural influences. In the afternoon, explore the Galle Fort with its cobbled streets and learn the history behind its Ramparts. A hive of activity, arts and culture it is one of the few World Heritage listed sites in which a bustling population continues to thrive with alleys lined with restaurants, art galleries and shops selling jewellery and antiques.
